After a disastrous career tailspin that resulted in cinematic flops like The Last Airbender and After Earth, it’s possible director M. Night Shyamalan is in the middle of a comeback. After the modest success of 2015’s The Visit, a $5M found-footage horror, it seems Shyamalan is returning to his low-budget roots for future successes. Especially since The Visit was the highest grossing horror movie of last year. It is in this context that we find the latest trailer for his next movie Split. The film stars James McAvoy as a man with 23 different personalities inside his head who has kidnapped a trio of teenage girls.

You can watch the new trailer below. While this is clearly a cheesy B-movie, one bolstered by an insane lead performance, it looks like a fun ride.

Split recently made its debut at Fantastic Fest, where it was met with positive reviews. It currently stands at a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, though that could easily go up or down after its wide release in January 2017. Split also stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Haley Lu Richardson, Jessica Sula, Brad William Henke, and Sebastian Arcelus.

Below is the film’s synopsis:

“Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialise and dominate the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him – as well as everyone around him – as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.”

Do you think Split could be the second success in a row for Shyamalan? Or do you feel you have you been burned too many times from this director? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
