Ever since the trailers came out, people have been excited for the release of Steven Spielberg’s movie adaptation of Ready Player One. A new trailer has just come out for the film, and it channels the classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Though it hasn’t been outright said before, the tunes heard in the earlier trailers are actually a rendition of Pure Imagination if you listen closely. This trailer is the first preview that actually has the song being sung.
If you think about it really well, Ready Player One also borrows a lot of themes from Willy Wonka. Besides the “world of pure imagination” bit, we also have a story where the wealthy owner of a “magical” place puts up a contest that would ultimately end with the winner owning the place.
Here’s the synopsis:
The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
Ready Player One hits theaters March 29.
