We’re getting closer to the release of Marvel’s Doctor Strange this fall. To whet our appetites further, the studio giant has tweeted a new poster for the film starring Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role.

The poster follows yesterday’s announcement that the film will be released in the UK earlier than expected. The previous release date had been October 28. Unfortunately, this doesn’t move the US release date up any further from its present slot on November 4.
The new artwork gives us a better look at the Sorcerer Supreme’s amazing costume brought to life. You can see fine details didn’t elude the wardrobe department given the checkerboard pattern lining Strange’s signature cloak. The background doesn’t miss a beat either by including skylines from London and New York City juxtaposed Inception-style. We also get a glimpse of the Tibetan mountains the good Doctor will visit and eventually train in.
Doctor Strange will be the second film in Marvel’s Phase Three, which leads up to Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. As such, it’s our first introduction to the fan-favorite hero before he becomes part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Already the tone of Doctor Strange has struck a chord in anxious audiences. The studio hasn’t released anything like it to date. If that thought unsettles you, just remember the same was said of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and that ended up a very pleasant surprise. We expect nothing less from director Scott Derrickson.
Acting goddess Tilda Swinton joins Cumberbatch as The Ancient One, which has been a very controversial casting move. The formidable cast also includes Oscar nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen and Benedict Wong.
