Adi Shankar had delivered a well-loved Castlevania adaptation for Netflix, and now he’s gearing up for another monster-filled series with Devil May Cry. The series is set to premiere next month, and a new trailer has been dropped featuring Capcom’s demon hunter Dante.
Check this out:
Compared to Castlevania which was animated by Powerhouse Studio, Devil May Cry comes from Studio Mir, the same animators that delivered The Legend of Korra, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and My Adventures with Superman.
While Castlevania is pretty dark and gothic, Devil May Cry does seem to take itself less seriously, and Dante does have a sense of humor to him.
The series also gives a look at Vergil, Dante’s older brother. In the original DMC game, Vergil was a boss, and it’s said that like Dante, he’s also a devil-human hybrid. One big difference is that he takes his training way more seriously.
We don’t know if Devil May Cry will be able to capture the same audience as Castlevania, but it definitely has all the right ingredients to satisfy that same demographic with the gothic aesthetic, hot protagonists, and variety of demons.
I’m just hoping this series manages to get enough hype to get us a Bayonetta cameo or maybe even a Bayonetta series. Game creator Hideki Kamiya has confirmed that all of his games including Okami and Viewtiful Joe all take place in the same universe.
Watch out for Devil May Cry when it releases on April 3 on Netflix.
