Netflix and WB Nearing a Deal to Make a Sandman Series with Neil Gaiman

Probably Neil Gaiman’s most famous work is the comic Sandman from Vertigo, and the property had been trying for years to get a film made, even with Joseph Gordon-Levitt attached at one point. After a while in development hell though, it looks like Sandman is close to finally coming to the screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix was said to have signed a “massive financial deal” with WB Television to produce a live-action Sandman series. What’s more, it’s said that this show will be the most expensive TV series ever produced by DC Entertainment.

Allan Heinberg (Grey’s Anatomy, Wonder Woman) is said to be attached as showrunner for Sandman, with Gaiman and David Goyer attached as executive producers.

With Gaiman’s works like American Gods and Good Omens getting TV adaptations, it was a wonder why Sandman was taking so long to make. Then again, the delay did get producers to realize that a TV show was the best angle to tackle the property. I can only imagine the chore of making a Sandman movie that would give us good coverage of the lore and flesh out each of the Endless.

No release date has been set for the Sandman series, but hopefully we get some news before the year ends. Netflix and WB declined to comment on the topic, but I’m convinced they could be saving some huge announcement for SDCC 2019 this July.
