It’s no mystery that a lot of changes were made to Captain America: Brave New World, and one of them was with Tim Blake Nelson’s gamma-addled Leader.
Leaks had come out of a more comic-accurate look for Samuel Sterns, but they apparently changed his look for the final movie to something more of an exposed brain. Now @bluewhalemakeup has shared a look at Nelson in his original makeup test. Check it:

It’s unclear why they decided to change it for the movie, but it probably had something to do with the tone of the film said to be made more serious. Originally, Sam Wilson was supposed to be going up against the Serpent Society, with each having their own special abilities; but it was probably deemed to childish for the new direction, and the SS were switched out to a regular mercenary group led by Giancarlo Esposito.
As for the Leader, a lot of fans thought that Tim Blake Nelson’s original look was fantastic, but it was probably hard to make him feel as menacing as the version we got in the film. Personally, I wish they kept the goatee, but we’re already here, and I don’t even know if there’s any chance we’ll be seeing Sterns again in the future.
Though a lot of people were worried that Brave New World wasn’t going to make the money back at the box office, the film still managed to gross upwards of $400 million against its $180 million budget. We don’t know when the next solo outing will be, but we should expect it to come after the next two Avengers movies.
