Mythic Quest has been one of my favourite comedies to come out on AppleTV+ so you can imagine my disappointment when it was said that the series was cancelled after four seasons.
According to Variety, Apple TV has opted not to renew Mythic Quest for a fifth season, but even if Season 4 leaves at a cliffhanger, they have been allowed to upload a new ending that will wrap things up for everyone involved. The series EPs Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney wrote in a statement:
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, ‘Mythic Quest’ is coming to a close… We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”
For context, Mythic Quest is a workplace comedy which follows the developers of the hit game Mythic Quest. The series take an inside look at the important players in game development like the creative director and lead programmer; there are also jabs at people like the community managers and money guys.
Though the series is a comedy, it has been commended for its very heartfelt episodes—specifically one middle episode that’s always an emotional standalone in every season.
Admittedly, some people weren’t the biggest fans of the new direction the third season went, and it looks like not everyone was onboard come Season 4. That being said, I did love this show, and though it’s sad to see it go, it’s great that it still managed to deliver some great television while it was going.
Catch four seasons of Mythic Quest now on Apple TV+.
