Jason Momoa among 4 Actors in Talks to Star in Street Fighter Movie

The Street Fighter movie may have lost Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou, but they got a new director at the helm with Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip). Now it looks like things are moving forward, and we have four actors being considered for what we assume are lead roles.

According to Deadline, actors currently in talks to star in Street Fighter include Andrew Koji (Bullet Train), Noah Centineo (Black Adam), Roman Reigns (WWE), and Jason Momoa (Aquaman). Word has it that Koji and Centineo are being eyed to play Ryu and Ken; Reigns is in talks to play Akuma; and Momoa is being considered for the part of Blanka.

We don’t have any details about the story yet, but at best we’re going to get a movie where we have a bunch of colorful characters fighting each other. I’ll admit, Mortal Kombat could have done better tone-wise, but maybe Street Fighter can learn what not to do from MK’s example.

Admittedly, Street Fighter has been having a hard time getting back on the big screen. 2009’s The Legend of Chun-Li was a major disappointment; but the live-action Assassin’s Fist did get some positive buzz when it came out online. Personally, the 1994 movie featuring Raul Julia is still a favorite of mine (and should be watched by any self-proclaimed cinephile):

The new Street Fighter movie still has no release date, but with all these years in development, hopefully it comes out sometime next year.
