Video games like Overwatch aren’t the only brands to make collaborations with anime. McDonald’s has had collabs with brands like Jujutsu Kaisen and Genshin Impact, but their latest crossover seems to be from one of the most beloved anime of all time—Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Check out their official Eva menu, complete with new animation:

The collab doesn’t just end with burgers either. There’s also a trailer for some transforming toys which take regular McDonald’s menu items and have them transform into EVA from the show. Check this out:
While the items look fun for any Eva collector, it’s revealed that the figures will only be made available through lottery via the McDonald’s Japan app. People will be allowed to enter the contest by January 10, and the winners will be notified on January 16. The items can then be picked up from McDonald’s on January 20.
There’s been a lot of great Eva memorabilia over the years, but this collaboration with McDonald’s is definitely one of the more unique items to ever officially come out. While some previous collaborations have been with newer franchises, it’s kind of great that a franchise as old as Eva can get some attention from a global brand. Such a shame that this will only be available for the Japanese market though; I’m sure there are some other countries that would have wanted a burger than turns into Asuka’s mech.
You can check out Neon Genesis Evangelion now available on Netflix. The McDonald’s collab will run until Jan. 10, 2025.
