Like Terminator, M3GAN 2.0 will Save Humanity in the Sequel

The first teaser for M3GAN 2.0 has officially dropped, and it’s no doubt pandering to the gays who absolutely love the robot doll when she first came out.

What’s interesting is, though M3GAN is being resurrected for the sequel, it looks like she’s going to help the humans this time. This was confirmed in the official synopsis for the movie (via Polygon):

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.

Though M3GAN was considered to be a spiritual sequel of the Child’s Play movie franchise, it’s pretty interesting that the movie should switch genres and pull a Terminator 2: Judgement Day where the killer robot in the first movie is going to fight for the good guys now.

It’s honestly the last thing I would’ve expected from M3GAN who could have easily just kept killing people in every film, but she does get another doll for her to fight in the form of Amelia—and she’s played by Ahsoka’s fan-favorite Ivanna Sakhno (Shin Hati).

With a release date set for June, hopefully we get a better look at the movie in the next few months. I’m honestly curious how Amelia’s going to turn out. Will she be a robot human, or will she have a creepy doll face like M3GAN?

M3GAN 2.0 comes to theaters on June 27.
