Another image has emerged as we near the release of Disney‘s live-action adaption of Beauty and the Beast. We’ve now had a trailer and images of both Emma Watson’s Belle and Dan Stevens’ Beast. In the latest edition of Empire‘s magazine, this time we turn our focus onto the main villain, Luke Evans’s Gaston.
Luke Evans looks the part; as the article over on Empire points out, he definitely has the neck for playing the famous villain. In the picture Gaston is presenting Emma Watson’s Belle with flowers. If you’re familiar with the story, he obviously isn’t fond of Belle’s love interest and wants her for himself.
Check out the image below, in all its colourful glory.
As well as this colourful image from the set of Beauty and the Beast, Empire also talked to Luke Evans and Emma Watson about their characters in the film.
In the original animated film, Gaston is both comical and dark. With Disney‘s round of live-action reboots, they have tended to make things darker. In the interview, Luke Evans talks about Gaston’s darker tones in this adaption:
“He gets as dark as any Disney character could possibly get”, says Gaston himself, Luke Evans. The character, while still comic relief, is also an ex-soldier – there are, according to Evans, several shades to him. “This is a man who, for the first time in his life, hasn’t got what he wanted.”
Emma Watson also talks about how similar she is to Beauty and the Beast‘s Belle:
“Belle was one of my idols growing up,” she tells us. “I knew every word to the animation. I was born in Paris like Belle. We both love books, obviously. She is someone who doesn’t really feel like she fits in, but she finds her place in the world and uses what makes her different. She was just inspiring to me.”
Beauty and the Beast will open in cinemas on March 17th, 2017.
