Disney’s Live-Action Hercules said to be Refocused into ‘Hades’

It’s been a while since there’s been an update on the live-action Hercules being developed by the Russo Brothers, and a lot of fans have been wondering just where the development status is at. While nothing official has been confirmed by Disney, there is an interesting rumor going around about the remake’s direction.

According to insider Daniel RPK (via @cosmic_marvel), the live-action Hercules, like Maleficent and Cruella, will be focusing entirely on the villain and will be titled Hades; this time around, the movie will now focus on telling the story from the perspective of the God of the Underworld.

As someone whose favourite movie was Hercules as a kid, I can get the choice to focus on Hades. After all, he is the most unique character to come out of that movie. Instead of the usual evil Disney villain, Hades was more of a fast-talking used car salesman. James Woods apparently loved working on the character so much, he didn’t even mind reprising Disney’s Hades whenever he showed up in other properties.

With the focus on Hades though, there is a chance that fans won’t be able to get the classic Disney songs from the original movie—which is probably crucial to the selling point of the remake.

Maybe this could be an origin story like Cruella where it focuses on Hades’ relationship with Zeus and the other gods before Herc came along—but we already have Percy Jackson and the Olympians for all that drama.

Then again, this is just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

No release date has been announced for the live-action Hercules.
