According to Kit Harrington who plays Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, that season six tension between him and Sansa isn’t going away in season seven.
In Game of Thrones season six, we finally saw two Starks reunited when Jon and Sansa joined forces to defeat Ramsay Bolton. Yet, even with the two of them ruling over Winterfell once more, the tension was high. Of course, this wasn’t helped by Petyr Baelish, who continually tried to convince Sansa to seize power for herself. As well as this, Sansa questioned Jon’s decisions, particularly at the Battle of the Bastards.
Now, in an interview with EW, Harrington has spoken about how Jon and Sansa go forward:
“There is definite tension between them right from the first scene,” star Kit Harington tells EW. “There are the same problems — she questions his decisions and command; he doesn’t listen to her. But as far as where that goes or takes them or how dark it can get, we’ll see. It gets past sibling squabbling, it gets into two people power struggling.”
Harrington also added:
“It’s a nice change for me this season, he talks more, he’s more sure of himself,” Harington says of his character. “He doesn’t just know what he’s got to do but he’s more sure of what he’s saying — whereas before there was always some fear and doubt. I’ve gotten to enjoy not just grunting.”
As EW and Kit both point out in the article, this season and season eight of GoT will see more screen time for the major characters. Of course, the episode count is shorter. However, we’ve had a whole host of main characters dying in the past seasons. So, this leaves us with a much deeper take on Jon, Daenerys, Sansa, Cersei and the others.
With George R.R. Martin still deciding on the final outcome of Westeros, there’s all to play for. Whether this lack of understanding between Jon and Sansa turns into a physical power struggle will be an interesting development in season seven. Let’s hope that if they do, they make up in time for the White Walkers.
