Kelly Marie Tran was introduced to Star Wars fans in The Last Jedi, but the toxic fandom had effectively bullied her off social media and minimized her role in The Rise of Skywalker.
With Star Wars way behind her, Tran was asked if she would be willing to come back to a galaxy far far away, seeing that Daisy Ridley was going to be returning as Rey. Talking to CBR, Tran said, “I have so much love and gratitude for that universe and that world… [Tran’s Wedding Banquet co-star] Lily [Gladstone]’s a big Star Wars fan as well. We’ve talked about it.”
With John Boyega clearly unhappy with how the fandom and franchise had treated his character of Finn, some would think that Tran would have some aversion to coming back as Rose. To that, Tran continues:
“I remain such [a Star Wars fan]. It has such a warm place in my heart, just that whole universe, and that entire experience. And I don’t know the context to which things would have to fall into place for Rose to return, but I will say that I just love that world.”
So far, Ridley is the only Sequel era actor confirmed to be making a return for her New Jedi Order movie, but fans have been hoping for a comeback of John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Tran herself. With The Rise of Skywalker leaning too heavily on nostalgia, I’m hoping that a new trilogy focused on Rey Skywalker would open the door for more stories rather than just ‘Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s Action Figure Hour’.
No release date has been announced for the Rey Skywalker movie.
