Dominique Thorne had debuted as Ironheart/Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and it’s been years since that film, and we still haven’t seen her in any other MCU project.
Now Marvel is set to put Thorne in the spotlight with her own TV series Ironheart, and we have a new featurette featuring the team behind the show hyping up the drop of the first trailer. Check this out:
Admittedly, Ironheart is one of the newer characters to come out of the MCU, and this version of the character has a challenge in that she’s introduced after the death of Tony Stark—the character who was supposed to be her mentor in the comics.
With Spider-Man essentially filling in that role of Iron Man’s protégé, Riri kind of has the challenge of carving out her own identity without the help of the Tony Stark character. While it does seem hard, it’s probably not impossible. After all, Miles Morales from Into the Spider-Verse had to have his origin changed from the comics, and that turned out to be one of the best things to happen for the character.
I just really hope Marvel has all the safeguards in place for Thorne online, because we should expect a lot of backlash on her, what being a POC character that’s going to take over the mantle of one of Marvel’s biggest heroes.
Personally, I’m just excited to see Alden Ehrenreich come into this show. After Han Solo didn’t take off for him, I wanna see what he can do for the MCU since I think he’s a great talent.
Ironheart is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 24.
