I’m Glad My Mom Died: Jennifer Anniston to Play Jennette McCurdy’s Mom

Back in 2022, former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy released her memoir about being a child actress called I’m Glad My Mom Died, and the book managed to become the No. 1 New York Times bestseller. Now the book is getting a series, and McCurdy has managed to nab an A-list star to play her titular mom.

According to Deadline, Apple TV+ has greenlit an adaptation of McCurdy’s book, and Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show, Friends) is set to star as Debra McCurdy—Jennette’s overbearing mother who passed away back in 2013.

The book actually details McCurdy’s rough experience being a child actress, and the co-dependent relationship between her and her mother who is described as a ‘narcissist’ who identified herself as a ‘starlet’s mother’.

McCurdy herself is attached to write, executive producer, and showun the series who Ari Katcher (Jarrod Charmichael Reality Show); and the series has been approved for 10 episodes.

So far, Aniston is the only cast member that’s been confirmed for the show. Probably the next big cast member would be the one playing the actual young McCurdy. I wouldn’t actually mind if McCurdy herself played the part since she’s not really that old; even the gals at PEN15 managed to pull of 13-year-olds when they were actresses in their 30s.

But who knows, this could be another Honey Boy situation where McCurdy is going to have some kind of catharsis bringing her story to life.

No release date has been set for I’m Glad My Mom Died, but you can check out the book now available in stores.
