It may be a while before players can get their hands on the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but this month we’ll be getting a new game from EA Motive in the form of Star Wars: Squadrons. While we’ve had some gameplay footage for a while, EA has decided to drop a CG-animated short for the game called Hunted and it’s like a scene straight out of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Check it out:

Meet one of the ace pilots you’ll fly alongside in STAR WARS™: Squadrons in this original standalone CG short, made in collaboration by Motive Studios, Lucasfilm, and ILM.

The short looks amazing, and it makes me miss the big space battles between X-Wings and TIE Fighters. There has admittedly been a Star Wars content drought since the release of The Rise of Skywalker, and even in that film there wasn’t enough love for starfighters.

What’s interesting is that the character in the short, Varko Grey, is officially described as being homosexual, with Lucasfilm even going so far to name his husband Emory. While I don’t expect that to be explicitly explored in the game, I guess it’s a neat bit of detail for a character we’ll only be seeing in his flight suit for most of the game.

As a fan of pilots and starfighters, I’m really excited for the game to come out. While everyone likes the clash between the Jedi and Sith, I prefer the stories of the more scrappy underdogs in their cramped cockpits.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be available for Xbox One, PC, and PS4 on Oct. 2.
