Superheroes or not, actors love to mess around as much as the rest of us, especially at the expense of colleagues. Henry Cavill (Superman) is hardly the taciturn Kryptonian he is onscreen. This weekend during the San Diego Comic Con he took a golden opportunity to pull a fast one on the cast of Suicide Squad. In particular he seemed to target Will Smith (Deadshot).
As is common practice now for many celebrities attending SDCC, Cavill strolled the convention floor in disguise wearing a V for Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask, enabling him to wander about unrecognized and unencumbered. He approached the Suicide Squad signing table as an average fan to take a photo with Will Smith. Before the camera snapped, Cavill pulled his mask up, though Smith didn’t immediately see until Cavill pulled away.
Scott Eastwood, whose Suicide Squad role is still a mystery, was also taken in by the devious Cavill. Really, everyone…if you’re at SDCC and there’s a tall, well-built guy strutting about in a random mask, chances are pretty good they deserve a closer look.
Other notables who have walked the San Diego Convention Center halls in disguise include Daniel Radcliffe dressed as Spider-Man in 2014, Simon Pegg as so many things over the years including Boba Fett and even Hugh Jackman dressed as Wolverine in 2013. Jackman went completely unrecognized despite not being behind a mask and walking around dressed as the very character he’s most famous for. A fan actually commented he was “way too tall” to cosplay Wolverine.
Meanwhile you can look forward to seeing Henry Cavill reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming Justice League, which hits theaters November 17, 2017. Suicide Squad hits theaters much sooner on August 5.
