With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sailing towards the $1billion mark, it seems like Lucasfilm are switching their attention elsewhere. The marketing machine will kick in to gear for Episode VIII later this year, but there’s also more spin-off films in the pipeline. It seems like the second anthology film is gearing up for production, with Woody Harrelson confirmed as part of the cast.
A press release by Disney confirmed that the Hunger Games actor is signed up for their Han Solo origin story. It was reported last week that Harrelson was in talks for a mentor role, setting the young scoundrel up for a legendary attempt at the Kessel Run. In the press release, directors of the second spin-off, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller praised the latest addition to their cast:
We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody. His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.
Could Lord and Miller be adding a Rogue One star to their cast too? We’ve not had anything confirmed yet, but Diego Luna has sparked rumours after trying to dodge a question on a possible appearance in the Han Solo origin story. While talking to MTV, the actor got very twitchy when asked about another appearance in a galaxy far, far away. He obviously couldn’t confirm anything, but denying the story didn’t even seem to cross his mind.
Luna said he, “does have an answer”, about reprising his role as Cassian Andor in 2018. He was a highlight of Rogue One, but if he appears it needs to be an organic appearance, rather than sandwiching in their latest star.
If Luna does appear, he’ll be joining Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clark and now Woody Harrelson. With Episode VIII wrapped, cameras are set to start rolling on the next Star Wars Story in February.
