Hailee Steinfeld Being Eyed For Disney+’s Hawkeye Series

Bumblebee’s Hailee Steinfeld pretty much cemented her role in the Marvel fandom by voicing Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but it looks like the MCU wants to bring her in for an onscreen role very soon, this time in Disney’s Hawkeye series.

According to Variety, Steinfeld is currently being offered the lead role of Kate Bishop in Disney+’s Hawkeye series. No other cast members have been announced, but the show is sure to also have Jeremy Renner reprising the role of Clint Barton/Hawkeye.

While some think that the next Hawkeye is going to be Clint’s daughter (as supposedly teased in Avengers: Endgame), Kate is actually Hawkeye’s protégé, and not his daughter at all. Kate took on the Hawkeye mantle after Barton died in the comics, and is also a member of the Young Avengers.

We don’t know how the series plans to introduce Kate Bishop into the story at this point. I would think that she would be some kind of delinquent that Clint ends up taking under his wing (like he did with Natasha Romanoff). Maybe Kate is related to a good friend of Clint’s who dies and she becomes his adopted daughter.

If anything, I don’t expect Kate to have been a part of Hawkeye’s life pre-Endgame, because that would raise up questions of where she was while he was out on a globe-trotting murder spree. It would have been perfect to introduce her as a classmate of Peter Parker, but after the Sony/Disney divorce, those odds are looking slim. But, hey, maybe those Into the Spider-Verse connections could be good for something.

Hawkeye is expected to come out on the fall of 2021. Disney+ launches on Nov. 12 later this year.
