Sunrise on the Reaping: McKenna Grace Joins the Second Hunger Games Prequel

After The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the Hunger Games prequels are going to be pushing forward in the timeline to focus on a young Haymitch Abernathy. We know that several other familiar faces are going to be showing up, but one new face is going to look like McKenna Grace.

According to Deadline, Grace has been cast for the role of Maysilee Donner, one of the District 12 tributes along with Haymitch (who is played by Joseph Zada). Since this is Hunger Games, it wouldn’t be complete with a complicated love triangle, so a third character Lenore Dove Baird (Whitney Peak) is also part of the story.

For context, Haymitch is going to be playing in the 50th Quarter Quell, which is set to be special by demanding two extra tributes from each district this time. Maysilee is said to be a lover of jewelry and fashion and is quite proficient with a blow dart.

I don’t want to spoil what happens to Maysilee, but we can pretty much infer what happens to her based on how miserable Haymitch is when we meet him in the original Hunger Games.

I honestly don’t know where these prequels are headed, but I have been enjoying the world-building around them so far. As a Rachel Zegler fan I liked seeing Lucy Gray Baird and finding out about her story. Maybe there’s a third prequel incoming to wrap everything up?

I’d like a flash forward to see how Panem has recovered after the Hunger Games, but that might not lead to anything interesting narratively.
