The Xbox-exclusive’s next major title hits this fall on October 11. This will be the first Gears not developed by, or in accordance, with Epic Games. After Microsoft acquired the rights to the series back in 2014, the publisher handed the title over to newcomer, The Coalition. Led by Rod Fergusson, former Epic Games director of production and Gears veteran, The Coalition is introducing a new set of characters in Gears 4, which is set about 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3. The game stars the son of Marcus Fenix, the series’ hero. JD Fenix, voiced by Liam McIntyre of Spartacus and The Flash fame, is the game’s primary protagonist. Other characters, Delmont ‘Del’ Walker (Eugene Byrd), and Kait Diaz (Laura Bailey), will be playable as well. The game is set to feature split-screen couch co-op, across all modes, and online multiplayer. Starting April 18, players who played the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will have access to the game’s multiplayer beta. Xbox Live members will have access to the beta starting April 25; the beta will conclude on May 1.
It’s been revealed that the game is set to take place during one night out in the woods, and an Xbox blog post offers an additional tease: “Today’s announcement is set to ignite a chain of upcoming revelations about what’s in store for JD Fenix and the next generation of Gears heroes.”
