Warning: Spoilers for episode one of Game of Thrones Season 7 ahead
Game of Thrones is back and last week we were given a box full of treats. Firstly, we had the shock opening of the first episode with Arya doing a reverse Red Wedding. Furthermore, Danaerys’s landing in Westeros is a sight we’ve wanted to see for years. In addition to this, as she stands at her map table, Danaerys says “Shall we begin?”
At San Diego Comic-Con, HBO released a new trailer for the second episode. In the trailer, we see a major character returning. Contrary to reports that Jon Snow would meet Danaerys first, it appears the Red Priestess Melisandre beats him to it. Interestingly, we see the Red Priestess reveal to Danaerys, “I believe you have a role to play, as does another.” By this, it’s likely she means Jon. The King of the North won’t be far. Now that he knows about dragonglass defeating White Walkers, Jon will be keen to get to Dragonstone. Check it out below:
Finally, six seasons after everyone drifted away, we’re seeing characters like Jon, Dany, Tyrion and others coming together again. As well as the episode two trailer dropping, EW also had a chat with some of the cast. On the subject of coming together, here’s what Conleth Hill, who plays Varys, had to say:
“Well, I don’t think we’ve got there yet. But that’s a possibility. We’re trying…”
“It’d be great fun.”
Of course, we still have several hours of battles, epic speeches and romance to come. It’s likely the show’s creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss may hold off of the big reunion yet.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, also revealed more about her’s and Jon’s rivalry in Season 7. When we left Jon and Sansa in Season 6, they were back together ruling over their home of Winterfell. Yet, in the new season, we see that things aren’t quite so rosy:
“Yeah – well, I think a lot of it, you know, the sibling kind of rivalry stems from childhood ‘cause they always need that. But once they meet up again and, you know, they kind of thought they would be back to a wonderful happy family life. But the reality is, is that, Jon is the military man and also this sexism kind of exists, where he believes that he is the man who should organise all of the plotting and the waring. And – in reality – Sansa is a really wonderful politician and he doesn’t recognise that and she feels quite under-appreciated. And so, this is a lot of her just trying to get her voice heard.”
The interview also moves onto the huge scenes at Dragonstone. According to the cast, filming on the Dragonstone was very cold. In addition to this Conleth even had his own ear muffs.
