Season 1, Episode 10: Fire and Blood
Jon Snow attempts to peace-out of The Night’s Watch to avenge his father.
As we all know, Jon Snow was always viewed as “the bastard”of Winterfell and therefore was always treated by many (most notably, a bitter Catelyn) as an inferior Stark, if one at all. He was even given the lesser direwolf, for crying out loud. Despite daily slights while at Winterfell, Ned always treated him as his son, and he shared a genuine kinship with the Stark brothers. So, when he hears of Ned’s death, and Robb’s forces fighting a war against the Lannister army, he feels compelled not just by duty but by family honor to help the Stark cause. In this moment, he feels bound to this pseudo-biological brothers than the new brothers that he swore an oath to; however, it is his brothers from the Night’s Watch that follow him into the forest to lure him back by reciting the sacred oath they all took together. He turns back to Castle Black with his new brothers, because Jon Snow is nothing if not a man of his word.
That is, until he meets a certain redhead.
