Hasbro is set to bring back G.I. Joe with spinoff Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, but everyone is expecting that film to eventually bring us a rebooted Joe franchise for the box office. What’s interesting is, word has come out that AllSpark Pictures already has some stars in mind for the lead.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, AllSpark is currently looking at stars John Cena (The Suicide Squad) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man, Uncharted) to play “Male Lead 1” and “Male Lead 2” in their G.I. Joe reboot. Nothing official has been confirmed as of now, but it would make sense for the studio to want to have some big names on the cast list.

We don’t know what the reboot could be about or who Male Leads 1 and 2 are, but I have a feeling that either Holland or Cena could be playing lead Joe, Duke. My guess is that they want Holland to play a newcomer to the Joes with Cena playing a veteran soldier; but I suspect the shake-up is going to be that Holland is the young Duke who is more vulnerable and he’s contrasted to Cena who could play a more ‘traditional’ hypermasculine Joe that Duke was.

While the first G.I. Joe films weren’t perfect, I felt that they weren’t all that terrible. The setpices are still pretty memorable, and you love to watch those ninja fights. Hopefully this reboot will manage to find a good way to bring in Joes to modern blockbusters. I mean, this is just another Star Wars waiting to happen.

A G.I. Joe reboot has not been officially announced, but Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is slated for a release on Oct. 22, 2021.
