With two critically panned DCEU entries released this year, Warner Bros. desperately needs Wonder Woman to be a success. They’ve yet to score a widely acclaimed film in their shared universe, after all, so something really needs to change for them. Hopes were high for Wonder Woman’s solo film after the fantastic trailer, but new rumours state it could be going down the same dark path as previous entries.
An open letter posted on Pajiba by an alleged former WB employee contains a scathing attack on the studio and labels the film “a mess.” While it’s obviously not confirmed at this stage, most fans of DC are on edge. The letter details job losses at the company, while looking at how badly they’ve handled their major tentpoles, including Suicide Squad. With regards to Wonder Woman, it’s apparently going in a similar direction:
“What are you even doing? I wish to God you were forced to live out of a car until you made a #1 movie of the year. Maybe Wonder Woman wouldn’t be such a mess. Don’t try to hide behind the great trailer. People inside are already confirming it’s another mess. It is almost impressive how you keep rewarding the same producers and executives for making the same mistakes, over and over.”
Given this is an unknown source reporting something they’ve heard, it’s not time to panic quite yet. However, WB has had a long record of meddling with their films, and they’ve really mismanaged their 2016 superhero releases. Would it be a surprise, then, if Wonder Woman went the same way? The trailer was loved by many, but is it another example of WB covering up failings with an action packed trailer?
For now this can be written off as a rumour. However, in the almost year long wait for the next DCEU film, don’t be surprised to see a few more of these stories popping up.
