We’ve been expecting massive ramifications once Flashpoint takes hold on The Flash. The history and relationships between the characters have changed, but apparently things are getting bigger than that. A new rumour suggests that Flashpoint could have multiverse shattering effects. Is The CW planning on merging their superhero universes together? There are spoilers below for recent seasons of the CW/DC shows.
That’s what Bleeding Cool is suggesting. To quickly recap, last season of Supergirl and The Flash established that the two heroes live on separate Earths within the multiverse. The Flash covered Earth 1 and 2, with Supergirl somewhere further down the list. That was done when they were on different networks, but since the two are are on the same network, plenty of questions have been raised.
This new rumour suggests those problems will be easily dealt with early in the new season of each show. Bleeding Cool said:
“As of the upcoming Flashpoint crossover storyline, Supergirl will now be a part of the main DC TV universe. Only Barry Allen will know that they were once separate… any remaining continuity issues will be handwaved as ‘a time traveller did it’.”
So now both Supergirl and Superman exist in the same universe as the Green Arrow. That certainly makes things easier for the upcoming crossover episodes, but it will raise a few problems. Season 4 of Arrow saw nuclear bombs dropped on the US, surely one of the Kryptonians would step offer help in such a scenario?
There may be some wrinkles, but merging these universes still feels like a good idea. Having to visit different Earths is an unnecessary problem between connecting these shows. It would also get in the way during the crossover. It seems like the brain trust behind this universe is getting things in order ahead of a crossover packed season.
