Ever since The Flash launched in 2014, fans have demanded Mirror Master appear in the show. Many members of The Rouges have come and gone, yet the first two seasons were free of Sam Scudder. That’s going to change in Season 3, with Grey Damon taking on the role. However, fans will have to prepare themselves for a different reflection of the character.
TV Line is reporting the show will do something new with Mirror Master. When we see Scudder in Episode 4, he’s going to be more in line with previous Flash foes. Once again, we’ll see Barry and his team battling with another metahuman.
The show’s executive producer, Todd Helbing, said Mirror Master “doesn’t use the [mirror] gun.” The original comic character had no powers himself; he had ways to use mirrors to his advantage. Obviously that doesn’t sound like a scary power, but he’s a cult hero among fans of Flash comics. Heblin added, “He’s a true meta, but he’s not necessarily warping into other dimensions.”
It’s easy to see fans being disappointed with this news. This show includes gun-toting villains and alternate universes. Mirror Master isn’t exactly a stretch. Although, this does make Scudder a very different villain than the likes of Heat Wave or Captain Cold. It also probably makes the character more difficult for Flash to take on.
There’s no reason why we can’t see his dimensional powers either. Growing the character through recurring appearances is something this series can do. Given how the series has handled Rogues so far, Mirror Master is likely to be another success for the show.
The Flash races back onto our screens on October 4 with Barry Allen stuck in the world of Flashpoint. Going by previous seasons, we can expect to see Mirror Master before October is over.
