It turns out Savitar has yet to be cast. The Flash producer Greg Berlanti tweeted out to say they still haven’t cast the role. You can read the original article below.
We recently found out that Season 3 of The Flash would feature two major villains. Dr. Alchemy is expected to be a major threat, but there’s also an evil speedster. After all, what would the show be if Barry didn’t have a bad guy to race? Savitar will be that speedster, and the show has cast a Vampire Dairies alum to play him.
According to THR, Todd Lasance will be the next to race the Fastest Man on Alive. We’ve already seen set photos of Savitar filming the early episodes of the season. It’s not clear yet if Lasance was on set taking on Kid Flash, but he will be up against Barry Allen at some stage this year.
Flashpoint will be the focus early on, but Savitar is expected to be a recurring villain this term. While Dr. Alchemy’s alter ego is being kept secret, Savitar is clearly a brand new character on the show. Hopefully this casting reveal means Lasance won’t be joining Team Flash before betraying them later in the season. Three seasons in a row would be pushing it.
Lasance played villain Julian in Vampire Dairies Season 7, so he should be a strong addition. The character has troubled Flash in the comics since 1995, but expect a very different take here. The comic version was a Cold War pilot who gained powers after his plane was hit by lightening. We don’t see Lasance playing a man from a third world country either. Executive producer Todd Helberg has promised that this will be a very different evil speedster:
“Savitar is more of a psychological villain in a weird way. I think the Hindu word for Savitar means God of Speed; he’s all about speed. Everything about this guy is different. I can’t go into super detail, but he’s not like Zoom or Reverse Flash.”
The Flash returns on October 4 on The CW.
