It’s been almost a decade since director George Miller gave us Mad Max: Fury Road, and while it’s going to be a while before we get to see Max onscreen again, we do have a prequel starring one of Fury Road’s standout characters, Furiosa.
Here’s the first trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth:
The synopsis reads:
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
In Fury Road, we know that Furiosa ends up working for Immortan Joe, but I guess it would be interesting to see just how she takes on Dementus—who is being played by Chris Hemsworth with a fake nose.
We know that Fury Road was praised for its practical action and production design, and we should expect even more of it when it comes to Furiosa. We don’t know where Miller wants to take the story, but I would mind a flash forward with Charlize Theron reprising the role and discovering what happened to her life after Max showed up and helped defeat Immortan Joe.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to come out on May 24, 2024.
