With a release date set for early 2020, it was only a matter of time before WB released the first trailer for Birds of Prey. Lucky for us, the preview has officially dropped in time with the release of Joker by the end of the week. It’s quite the Harley romp.

No new plot description was released with the trailer, but here’s the synopsis that’s been going around for months:
After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord, Black Mask in Gotham City.
Though the movie is called Birds of Prey, it’s no mystery that Harley Quinn is going to be the driving force of the film. We don’t really know her relationship with the other Birds, but we do know she’ll be going on some spree with Cassandra Cain, and she’s met Dinah Lance/Black Canary before anyone else.
We also get our first look at Ewan McGregor as Roman Sionis a.k.a. Black Mask. While we don’t see him in a comic-accurate costume, we do get hints that he’s kind of crazy, and he’s into torturing people. It’s likely he also has Victor Zsaz (Chris Messina) helping him do his dirty work.
I think the film looks amazing, and what I love is how it doesn’t feel like your kid-friendly superhero film. After Shazam! and Aquaman, it’s good to see WB trying to add some variety to comic book movies.
Catch Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) in theaters Feb. 7, 2020.
