Whilst we’re distracted by the new The Lego Batman Movie opening worldwide within days, Warner Bros. has dropped a teaser trailer for their next LEGO adventure. This time, the studio is swapping the Dark Knight and the setting of the original The Lego Movie for ninjas. LEGO’s Ninjago series is hugely popular, moving into TV already. With the plastic brick-based The Lego Movie seeing massive returns for Warner Bros. and with The Lego Batman Movie hotly tipped to be a success, it seems natural that the studio would want to pick up the successful samurai-themed world. According to the teaser, a full trailer will be landing on Wednesday, 8th of February. For now, though, this is looks awesome.
UPDATE: we now have a full trailer and another poster for the movie. See them both in all their glory below:
Here’s what EW had to say about the new LEGO film:
“Based on Lego’s long-running ninja line, The Lego Ninjago Movie focuses on Lloyd, a.k.a. the Green Ninja (Dave Franco), who must team up with a group of his ninja friends to defeat the evil warlord Garmadon (Justin Theroux). In the trailer teaser, however, things are just getting started. As a mysterious invasion force moves in on Ninjago City, Master Wu (Jackie Chan) assembles this young group of ninja for the first time. At least one of them still has cold feet, however.”
Although lots of elements made the The Lego Movie a huge success, featuring a host of famous characters definitely helped it. Without any famous characters in the mix this time, as we had with The Lego Movie, the studio will have to rely on famous voice actors and a strong plot to build it up in time for release. Yet, with Jackie Chan taking on the role of Master Wu and with Dave Franco as the Green Ninja, Warner Bros. may just achieve that.
From the looks of the tease above, stunning LEGO visuals, the strong comedy we saw in the The Lego Movie and an interesting plot look to make this a worthy third film in the Warner Bros. and LEGO team up. We’ll know for sure when September 22nd rolls around.
As well as a trailer, we also have some shots from the film set:
