First Look at Oscar Isaac in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein

It looks like classic movie monsters are coming back to the big screen. After Nosferatu last Christmas, it looks like 2025’s Thanksgiving season is going to deliver a new take on Frankenstein.

Guillermo del Toro is now set to have his own original take on Mary Shelley’s monster, and Netflix has dropped a first look at Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight) as the mad doctor. Check this out:

Besides Isaac, the movie also features Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz. Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn) has also been cast as Frankenstein’s monster.

Admittedly, no official reveal has been made for Frankenstein’s monster, but knowing del Toro, fans are expecting something visually original—what with del Toro’s penchant for monsters and dark creatures.

His last animated film with Netflix was Pinocchio, and while the character has had a very established look over the year, del Toro was able to introduce a more unique take with Pinocchio not even resembling an actual boy, and the story’s ‘Blue Fairy’ being more of a sphinx than a magical lady with a wand.

Admittedly, there have been multiple takes on Frankenstein over the decades, but it does seem that the Boris Karloff version with the enlarged head and bolts on his neck has been one that has stayed with the character’s iconography for so long. Del Toro will probably have his own spin on it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he went with something that tried to deny everything that came before it.

Watch out for Frankenstein when it comes to Netflix this November.
