Earlier this year, Universal had announced that their Dark Universe characters were going to be part of their ‘Epic Universe’ theme park which is set to open next year, and we just got a first look at some animatronics for characters like The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and Dracula. Check these out:

Though stills of the characters look pretty amazing, it’s when they start to move is when it gets pretty impressive. Check this out:

Here’s the official description for the ride:
“Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment will take guests deep into the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein – the great-great-granddaughter of the infamous Henry Frankenstein – conducts her twisted and misguided experiments… In a vain display of her genius, she invites guests to witness a demonstration of her ability to control monsters – but her plans go awry when a horde of enraged monsters are unleashed. Guests then embark on a terrifying ride through the darkness as they try to evade Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and more.”
We don’t know if there are more unmentioned monsters that will be appearing on the ride, but the video did say that there are going to be 14 special animatronics that will be in the manor. Then again, it’s possible that they have multiple animatronics of the same character so they can ‘follow’ guests along for the ride.
Universal may have a hard time getting these monsters back on the big screen in the Dark Universe, but the ride should be fun enough on its own. The monster designs are still iconic, and anyone can easily get spooked by Frankenstein’s monster even if they haven’t seen any of the movies.
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment is set to launch alongside the Epic Universe which opens sometime in 2025.
]]>It looks like development is steadily moving forward, and The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) has officially joined the cast of the series. Macdonald has apparently been cast in the role of Sheriff Kerry, who is described as “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.”
It’s kind of fitting that the series would also include a sheriff character on Earth, seeing that the Lanterns themselves function as intergalactic sheriffs. We don’t know exactly what her role in the story is going to be, but some think that she could have some kind of romance with the older Lantern Hal Jordan.
I think it’s also worth noting that Macdonald had played opposite Josh Brolin in No Country for Old Men. Brolin was the original choice to play Hal Jordan before Chandler was cast.
Though the Lanterns mostly deal with intergalactic conflicts, it’s said that this series is going to have a grounded story that will take place mostly on Earth, and that it’s going to be around the same vein as True Detective. We don’t know exactly how that happens, but I think there’s going to be alien shenanigans afoot, and it will be up to the Lanterns to get to the bottom of it.
With The Penguin having such great reception being compared to The Sopranos, I’m admittedly skeptical about a Lanterns series that’s going to be close to True Detective—especially with Gunn’s DC expected to be more ‘lighthearted’ than the DCEU.
Then again, these Elseworld stories are still pushing forward, and I prefer my comic universes to have more variety between each project.
No release date has been set for Lanterns, but maybe a 2026 release is realistic.
]]>Check this out:
Here’s the official description for the second season:
Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the states and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.
We never really knew how Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) planned to take down the games after he won, but it does look like he’s just going to join as a regular participant and try to convince everyone to stop playing the games by confirming that he’s a previous winner.
Admittedly, it doesn’t seem like the smartest plan on Gi-hun’s part, but maybe there’s some kind of mind game that he’s playing with the game masters; and him looking desperate was just part of his plan.
I’ll have to say I was one of the more sceptical people when a second season was announced, but it does seem that director Hwang Dong-hyuk had something planned for a follow-up. Let’s just hope that the series manages to captivate audiences just as much as the first one did.
Watch out for Squid Game 2 when it comes to Netflix on Dec. 26.
]]>In a recent talk with Variety, Law talks about the notes he got from J.K. Rowling about the characterization of Dumbledore, “I had a pretty clear sense of where it was going to go,” and he explained that young Dumbledore always saw himself as a monster “And that’s why he liked Newt… because Newt took care of monsters.”
It also had something to do with Dumbledore having been smitten by Grindelwald—which ultimately led to his sister’s death. Law continues:
“Because of Dumbledore’s past… I think he always felt guilty that he had been misled because he was in love. It followed him. He found himself to be unlovable because he trusted his heart.”
When it comes to the future of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Law explained, “I know it’s certainly on hold.” For now, WB is currently working on a full reboot of Potter with the production on the search for new child actors to play the lead trio of Harry, Ron and Hermoine. Law continues, “My guess would be that, now that they’re doing ‘Harry Potter’ as a TV show, they’ll probably put their energy into that. I certainly haven’t heard that there’s anything on the horizon.”
Personally, I thought that it was a mistake to pivot the Fantastic Beasts franchise from Newt to Dumbledore. Newt already had his own thing going on in a whole new era, but the movies just decided to make him a sort of spectator to the clash between Dumbledore and Grindelwald.
A lot of fans think that they should have just focused on Dumbledore from the get-go, but what happened has happened, and now a whole new bunch of kids are going to have to spend a good chunk of their adolescence playing child wizards on television.
No release date has been set for the Harry Potter reboot, but fans are expecting a 2026 release.
]]>Flash forward to 2024, and DC Studios is now led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and the DCEU has been dropped; all the heroes are set to be recast, and Supergirl is now going to be played by House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock. It really did feel like the rug was pulled from under Calle, but she seems to be making peace with what’s happened. She tells The Hollywood Reporter:
“I look back at [playing Supergirl] as something super beautiful. It’s been said that a queer Latina girl like me couldn’t be Supergirl. But I was, and no one can take that away from me. That is the most important thing for me; I did something that mattered. And whether you saw yourself represented in me or not, a lot of people really connected with her and loved her.”
Calle also said that she found kinship with Leslie Grace, who had shot the Batgirl movie before it was shelved for tax purposes. She also says something that could possibly be throwing shade at the current DC heads. Check this out:
“I also want to work with people who value me and respect me and are really excited to work with me. That’s what I wish for myself, and that’s what I wish for anybody in this business, but that was a rough experience. So I look forward to working with people in this industry who see my value and who are excited to work with me.”
It’s certainly a shame that Calle wasn’t able to deliver the Supergirl she wanted, but she’s just one of many other passionate artists that weren’t able to give their all when it came to the mess that was the DCEU.
We don’t know if Gunn is going to deliver his universe any better, but having been on the Marvel side of things, maybe he has an idea of how better to tackle a new universe—especially since he’s going to start from the ground up this time.
Superman is set to release in theaters July 11, 2025.
]]>Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga star in Sweethearts:
Here’s the synopsis for the movie:
Two college freshmen pull a “Turkey Dump” and break up with their high school sweethearts over “Drunksgiving” – the one chaotic night before Thanksgiving in their hometown that puts their codependent friendship to the test.
Shipka is no doubt the bigger star in this film, having been the lead in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but I do have to say Hiraga was pretty memorable in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart where he played one of the ‘cool kids’.
Like any rom-com, the movie also has appearances from some great comic talent. Stavros Halkias may not be the biggest comedian now, but he’s steadily showing up in more places. The movie also features Tramell Tillman who pretty much stole the scene as Milchick in Apple TV+’s Severance.
It’s also worth noting that the movie is being directed by Jordan Weiss, the creator of the series Dollface which starred Kat Dennings and Brenda Song.
It’s a pretty interesting premise, and based on the trailer, this does look to be a more artsy rom-com as compared to what Netflix usually pumps out. At best it’s a funnier Euphoria, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Catch Sweethearts when it releases on Max on Nov. 28.
]]>Just in, we have a look ahead at all the incoming Marvel series of 2025 including Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, Wonder Man, and more. Check this out:
The timeline of releases is as follows:
Deadpool and Wolverine (Nov. 12)
What If…? Season 3 (Dec. 22)
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Jan. 29, 2025)
Daredevil: Born Again (March 4, 2025)
Ironheart (June 24, 2025)
Eyes of Wakanda (Aug. 6, 2025)
Marvel Zombies (October 2025)
Wonder Man (December 2025).
On the movie side of things, Marvel fans are expecting three movies to release next year—Captain America: Brave New World (Feb. 14, 2025), Thunderbolts* (May 2, 2025), and Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025).
Admittedly, the slate looks pretty full, which is different from what fans were expecting, with the studio said to be slowing down moving forward. Then again, with Marvel hanging back on releases this year, this could be a result of them coming back up—then again, all of these projects have been on hold for quite a while since they were initially announced. It’s great that they’re finally releasing.
Personally, I’m in the camp that thinks that Marvel is in a bit of a slump, and I don’t think that leaning in on nostalgia is going to make the studio any better—despite the success of Deadpool and Wolverine. At least there are some newer projects covering more obscure characters to look forward to.
I still am holding out for second seasons of She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel though.
]]>According to Deadline, Mindhunter and Gone Girl director David Fincher has been tasked by Netflix to develop an English-language adaptation of Squid Game. We don’t have much details about the series yet, but it’s rumoured that the English Squid Game could be Fincher’s major focus for the next year.
So far, it isn’t clear if Fincher’s series is going to be an extension of the canon or a straight-up remake, but fans are admittedly not happy that Fincher would be working on this—especially when everyone had been asking for him to get back on a third season of Mindhunter.
We don’t need an English-language Squid Game. The Korean version is too perfect. We deserve the final season of Mindhunter instead. https://t.co/IS8jf58y9U pic.twitter.com/TYkw4ewOwO
— Eric Pellinen (@EricPellinen) October 28, 2024
Admittedly, Fincher has been in kind of a slump recently, and Mindhunter seems to be his last major success. Mank didn’t exactly make waves when it released, and last year’s The Killer was also considered pretty plain next to other films in Fincher’s filmography.
Though directing hasn’t been so forgiving for Fincher recently, he has managed to produce some great shows like Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots—he even directed one episode in the latest season (the one with the giant evil crab).
Who knows, maybe Fincher will have a unique take on Squid Game, but for now, fans are going to be sceptical about the decision until they get a first look.
The second season of Squid Game is expected to hit Netflix on Dec. 26.
]]>What’s crazy though, is that Christopher Lee will actually be reprising the role of the White Wizard in the movie—and this is thanks to archival recordings from The Hobbit. This was confirmed by writer Philippa Boyens at the New York Comic-Con (via The One Ring):
“We went into his records, I got to go back and hear his voice. Not just doing the lines, but talking to us as we were recording. We based it on a line from The Hobbit which is, ‘are you in need of assistance my lady?’ something—like a version of that line.”
The line actually comes from this scene in Desolation of Smaug where Galadriel and the rest of the immortals take on the Nazgul:
I’ll admit, I wasn’t a fan of when they decided to “Frankenstein” Carrie Fisher’s performance in The Force Awakens and repurpose it for The Rise of Skywalker, but I would be more forgiving if it was just for the voice and the project was animated.
Boyens did say that they thought of getting someone to sound like Christopher Lee, but it’s great that they found some way to bring him back without having to use some kind of AI trickery. I guess Corey Burton will have to just stick to Clone Wars for now.
Catch Christopher Lee in Lord of the Rings: War for the Rohirrim when it comes to cinemas on Dec. 11.
]]>Admittedly, the films just kept getting worse with each entry, and the last film to come out was The Secrets of Dumbledore back in 2022. Though that film teased an eventual clash with Grindelwald and Dumbledore, it looks like that won’t be happening anymore—at least we know Newt won’t be around to witness it.
In a recent interview with ComicBook to promote his new series Day of the Jackal, Redmayne confirmed, “I think they probably have [seen the last of Newt]… That was a very frank answer, but yeah. And that’s as far as I know. I mean, you’d have to speak to the people at Warner Bros. and J.K Rowling, but as far as I know, that’s it. I think he may come back in a glimpse in the Universal world in Florida that they’re opening up, in which you may catch a glimpse of what he was up to in Paris.”
For now, it looks like the main focus of the Wizarding World franchise is launching the Potter reboot series; but even now a lot of fans are being very skeptical about the remake. After all, so much of the Potter media like the theme parks and the games have all been based heavily on what’s been seen in the films. What would be the point of making a new adaptation?
Personally, I loved the initial direction they went with Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, but it seemed like Rowling got lost in the legacy of the characters and wanted to hype up the clash between Dumbledore and Grindelwald so much that Newt ended up becoming a side character in the franchise that he launched.
We don’t know what’s in store for the Wizarding World in the next few years, but I honestly hope whoever gets cast as the new lead wouldn’t be relentlessly bashed online by some angry Potter fans.
The Potter reboot is expected to hit Max sometime in 2026 or 2027.
]]>What’s funny is, with more being able to access the movie now, more positive reactions are starting to come out from casual movie goers; and the Folie a Deux managed to get the endorsement of one major filmmaker—Quentin Tarantino.
Talking to the Bret Easton Ellis Podcast (via World of Reel) Tarantino talks about how he actually loved the movie and how Todd Phillips was an absolute madman for being able to pull the film off. Tarantino said, “I really, really liked it, really. A lot. Like, tremendously, and I went to see it expecting to be impressed by the filmmaking. But I thought it was going to be an arms-length, intellectual exercise that ultimately I wouldn’t think worked like a movie, but that I would appreciate it for what it is… And I didn’t find it an intellectual exercise. I really got caught up into it.”
Tarantino even likened the movie’s Joker and Harley to his own characters Mickey and Mallory from Natural Born Killers, and thought the film was a kind of homage to his work the same way that the first Joker was an homage to Martin Scorsese’s earlier films.
If anything, Tarantino thought that the film was very meta in that Phillips himself may have been the Joker, being able to pull the rug from under the audience and the studio. He continues:
“Todd Phillips is the Joker. The Joker directed the movie. The entire concept, even him spending the studio’s money — he’s spending it like the Joker would spend it, all right? And then his big surprise gift — haha! — the the jack in the box, when he offers you his hand for a handshake and you get a buzzer with 10,000 volts shooting you — is the comic book geeks. He’s saying f— you to all of them. He’s saying f— you to the movie audience. He’s saying f— you to Hollywood. He’s saying f— you to anybody who owns any stock at DC and Warner Brothers […] And Todd Phillips is the Joker. Un film de Joker, all right, is what it is. He is the Joker.”
Joker: Folie a Deux is now available on digital.
]]>According to a recent rumor from insider Daniel RPK (via @marvel_update3s) Marvel Studios is currently interested in casting Eilish in a ‘big role’ for the MCU. No details have been revealed, but a rumor is going out that they want her to play X-Men member Rogue.
For context, the only other live-action actress to play Rogue was Anna Paquin in Bryan Singer’s original X-Men. Though she was kind of coded as an edgy teen in those films, it wasn’t until the animated X-Men: Evolution where Rogue went full goth and changed the lives of every 12-year-old millennial.
Though Eilish has proven herself as a solid musical performer, her acting chops are yet to be tested; but a role as the new Rogue for an X-Men reboot could work—especially if they want to have her be influenced a more contemporary version of the character. I don’t think Eilish is equipped to do a Rogue inspired by the 90s version complete with the Southern accent and big hair; but she’s very much welcome to try.
Personally, I loved the fancasting of Keke Palmer (Nope) as Rogue, complete with big hair and Southern background, but at this point, Palmer may be too old to pull off a teenage version of the character.
To be fair, Eilish would be an interesting bit of casting, but I think there are other (more experienced) young actresses who could pull the character off.
For now, Marvel has no release date for the X-Men reboot.
]]>
Of course, the concept was too abstract for Marvel at the time, but as per the second-to-the-last episode of Agatha All Along, Death has come in the form of Aubrey Plaza.
With some wondering if Death was influencing Thanos in some way in the story, series creator Jac Schaffer tells Inverse, “Thanos is not in my show, so I can’t speak to any Thanos connections… Thanos stans out there, I have no answers for you.”
It’s unclear what Death’s role in the story is yet, but she definitely has something that resembles a lover in the form of Agatha Harkness. Schaffer continues to tease, “There will be a little bit more illuminating about our version of Death, but what I will say is we generally leave some of it to interpretation in this show… But you’ll get a little bit more understanding of how she operates in the last two episodes.”
At this point, I’m kind of just hoping that Marvel plans for Death to show up in some future movies (perhaps a Doctor Strange film?) but we could get a more solid idea of how they’re approaching her character once we get to the finale.
If anything, Plaza was a great pick for the character, and it would be a shame if she only got one appearance. I wouldn’t even mind if she went to court on She-Hulk…if we ever get a second season , that is.
Catch the finale episode of Agatha All Along when it airs on Disney+ this Wednesday.

That’s right, Chalamet himself showed up at the competition to have fun with some of his fans. It doesn’t look like he stayed for the judging, but he did take some pictures with some of the lookalikes who showed up. He was then whisked away by his security.
Apparently, the event was planned by one Anthony Po on Twitter, and he had come up with the idea three months ago. Though a lot of people from NY thought it was a pretty memorable day, Po was hit with a fine for holding an unpermitted event in the park.

]]>Check this out:
The movie promises 8 new original songs for the Moana sequel, but the preview only gives us a tease at one power ballad titled Beyond. This time around, the music will be provided by songwriter duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (Barlow and Bear) who had won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for their work on The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical.
To compare, the first movie’s music was provided by Lin-Manuel Miranda, along with Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foa’I, who are also attached to this movie.
Though we know that Moana gets her own song, it’s possible that we’re also going to get some new tracks for Maui, and the rest of the people from Moana’s village. Of course, there’s also the obligatory villain song (for new character Matangi). This time around, Moana also has her own crew to help her on the boat, so maybe they get a song as well—a classic sea shanty, if you will.
There’s honestly a lot of pessimism with the Disney movie since it was originally planned as a series then retooled into a film; and the lack of marketing is kind of telling—but hopefully the film will be completed fully by the time we get to the end of November.
Catch Moana 2 when it comes out in theatres on Nov. 27.
]]>This was his post (via @westerosies):
Tom Glynn-Carney shares a message on his Instagram story regarding the harassment his friends and family are facing due to him portraying King Aegon II Targaryen in ‘HOUSE OF THE DRAGON.’
“It has been brought to my attention that there are messages being sent to my friends and… pic.twitter.com/PK5i2P8GCZ
— westerosies (@westerosies) October 23, 2024
We don’t know if this is going to stop anyone from harassing Glynn-Carney’s family, but it at least puts the spotlight on a very real thing that happens in fandoms when actors who play characters that fans don’t like get bullied online. Fans have been doing it since The Phantom Menace, and the act has only gotten more lucrative since then, with multiple Youtube channels dedicated solely to spreading toxicity and promoting bigotry in specific fandoms—like the Star Wars communities.
There has been a recent calling out of the huge companies like Disney for taking responsibility for this harassment, and so far the only solution they’ve come up with was to give actors a ‘social media bootcamp’ as well as offer to completely take over a performers’ social media.
Any act outright condemning the fandom for racism/bullying is usually done personally by the actors. Here’s what Ewan McGregor did when fans were attacking his Obi-Wan Kenobi star Moses Ingram:
The next season of House of the Dragon is expected to come to HBO in 2026.
]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third and final season of Good Omens is going to be dropping Gaiman and will hire someone else to take on his role as executive producer; it is worth noting that Gaiman did do some writing for the third season though.
Probably the biggest change besides Gaiman getting dropped is that instead of a full season, the show is only going to have one episode which will run for 90 minutes. Production is set to begin in Scotland early 2025.
The third season had been announced way back in December 2023, and had originally been released as a limited series. But after the positive reception of the first season, the series got a greenlight for a second one, and now fans are waiting on a third.
While the story can get a bit Doctor Who-ish for some, Good Omens’ shining light is the chemistry between both leads David Tennant and Michael Sheen who play a devil and angel respectively as they live throughout history and suddenly have to try and stop Armageddon. It has all of the Gaiman-isms one can expect from his kind of story, with fantasy characters interacting with all kinds of mythological creatures.
It’s certainly a shame that fans won’t get a full season, but at least the series is getting a chance to come up with a proper ending. Just look at what happened to Netflix’s GLOW.
]]>According to insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel), James Mangold’s (Logan, A Complete Unknown) Star Wars movie, tentatively titled Dawn of the Jedi, could be starting production early next year. We don’t have any details past that, but with Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic coming out, he could be free next year to finally get started on his Star Wars movie. Previously, he was also attached to a Boba Fett solo movie, but things didn’t really push through.
We don’t know much about Dawn of the Jedi yet, but it’s said that it will explore the origins of the Jedi and that it will take place 25,000 years into the past. For context, The Acolyte only takes place 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, so there’s definitely a lot of undiscovered ground when it comes to that story.
With this news just coming from Richtman, and directors seemingly getting dropped left and right, it’s understandable that fans would want to wait till cameras actually start rolling before they suddenly get excited. I mean, even the Rey movie with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is finding a hard time to get off the ground.
At this point, the only project I’m sure is going to happen is the Mandalorian movie—but that clearly is only pandering to one specific side of the fandom.
No release date has been announced for Mangold’s Star Wars movie. In the meantime, you can catch Mangold’s A Complete Unknown when it hits theaters this Christmas.
]]>Check him out in this first trailer for Universal’s Love Hurts:
Here’s the description for the movie:
Ke Huy Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose; West Side Story, Argylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.
Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu; Tomb Raider, Warcraft), a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried.
With Quan playing a former hitman who is just trying to live his life in peace before his past comes back to haunt him—it really does seem like Love Hurts is just another John Wick-type property, and it probably is. After all, it’s also being produced by David Leitch who produced the John Wick movies. The movie is also being directed by longtime stunt coordinator JoJo Eusebio, who has also worked on movies like Black Panther, The Avengers, Deadpool 2, and—surprise, surprise—John Wick.
Quan himself has also had a history with action filmmaking, so it’s great that he’s able to show off his skills in this film. Though he may be best known for his child acting days in films like Indiana Jones 2 and The Goonies, it’s great to see him actually take on action roles—while at the same time embracing his cutesy wimp onscreen persona.
Catch Love Hurts when it comes to cinemas on Feb. 7.
]]>The series is set to premiere this November, and a new trailer has been dropped. Check this out:
With the Dune films taking place mostly on Arrakis, Prophecy looks to flesh out the world by bringing audiences to the headquarters of the Imperium, where the Emperor resides. While this series has the Bene Gesserit in focus, the Imperium in this show is being led by Mark Strong’s Emperor Javicco Corrino—who will likely be the sisterhood’s target as they plan to take control of the known universe themselves.
For now, it looks like the Harkonnen matriarch Valya (Emily Watson) is going to be the one leading the Bene Gesserit under the guise of it being some kind of specialty school. We don’t know exactly how they gain power, but by the time of the movies, the Bene Gesserit have successfully infiltrated powerful houses, and have even started a religious superstition on Arrakis that would result in the easier takeover of the Kwisatz Haderach—who they plan to successfully breed into existence.
If anything, the sisterhood is considered to be the basis of George Lucas’ Jedi in Star Wars, but instead of noble space knights, you have sneaky witch ladies who can force people to do their bidding literally.
It’s going to be a lot of fun.
Dune: Prophecy is set to release on Max this coming Nov. 17.
