Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was kind of a low point for the Wizarding World franchise, but J.K. Rowling is still making another stab at screenwriting with Fantastic Beasts 3. As it turns out, the movie is actually close to starting production.

Talking at LeakyCon 2019 (via ComicBook), Dan Fogler has revealed that the film will actually start production in early 2020. He says, “We haven’t started filming yet. We start in February… Last we heard, J.K. … she’s been writing furiously, everyone was really happy with what she submitted, and we’re all just waiting for the new script. And that’s where we’re at.”

If you recall, Fogler plays the muggle (or rather no-maj) Jacob Kowalski in the franchise, and last we saw him, he was separated from his girlfriend Queenie who decided to team-up with Johnny Depp’s Grindelwald.

Personally, I thought the franchise would have been fine if Rowling just stuck to the adventures of Newt and his gang. After she introduced Grindelwald and the whole issue with Dumbledore, Newt has kind of become a supporting character in his own film. Hopefully, Rowling has managed to correct a lot of the issues that she had with the previous film. If anything, fans are kind of understanding that writing novels isn’t really the same as writing screenplays.

No release date has been set for Fantastic Beasts 3, but we should expect a late 2021 release if the movie is set to start production early 2020.
