Fantastic Beasts 3: Mads Mikkelsen in Talks to Replace Johnny Depp

While some fans are holding up hope that Fantastic Beasts 3 will bring back Johnny Depp, it seems that WB is moving forward with finding his replacement. As it turns out, director David Yates already had someone in mind for the part, and honestly I think he’s actually a marvellous choice.

As per Deadline, Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) is currently in early talks to replace Depp in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. No details have been revealed about how far the deal has gone, but it’s possible that WB wants this done fast, seeing as production had been underway since September.

I personally think that Mikkelsen is a fantastic choice for the part, and his work on Hannibal has proven that he can pull off a sophisticated, evil villain.

While I do sympathize with Depp when it comes to the current state of his career, I have to admit that his acting work has been suffering ever since this whole debacle with Heard had started. His Jack Sparrow performances have started to lose their energy in the last Pirates of the Caribbean film, and Crimes of Grindelwald just wasn’t any better. It’s probably best that he just take a break from acting right now and focus on his appeal.

Going back to Mikkelsen though, nothing has been set in stone yet, but I have no idea who else they could cast so perfectly for the part.

For now, Fantastic Beasts 3 is looking at a release on July 15, 2022.
