Zack Snyder is the fearless director in charge of helming the DCEU. He kicked it off with 2013’s polarizing Man of Steel and has brought about the dawn of the Justice League with last week’s release of the even more polarizing Batman v Superman. Many of the complaints the latter film has been getting are a direct reflection of Snyder’s influence on the franchise — namely the movie’s decidedly poor pacing and editing. Some fans are speaking out online about their frustrations, but some are taking another form of action.
Petitioning Warner Bros., a fan named Bryan Cruz has launched a campaign on Change.org in an effort to have WB “boot” Snyder from the upcoming ensemble film. “Zack Snyder is not the person to bring the Justice League to the big screen. He’s had two chances now to adapt DC characters and has produced middling results,” Cruz’s petition asserts. While the middling aspect may be true, as far as critical reception is concerned, it could be argued that the divisiveness is what’s driven so many people to theaters in record breaking numbers.
It should also be noted that Justice League: Part One begins shooting on April 11. Changing directors at the last minute would force the DCEU slate to be pushed back significantly if another director, nay another visionary, was to be brought on board. The fact is that Snyder’s fingerprints are all over WB’s plans moving forward; it would probably be fair to call him one of the architects of the design. Perhaps Justice League: Part Two will have another director captaining the ship, but in all likelihood Snyder will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
Critics and fans alike have been pondering this very question. Do you think this drastic step should be taken? Sound off in the comments below.
