K-Pop Demon Hunters will Scratch Your Spider-Verse Itch in the Meantime

It’s going to be a while before we get Beyond the Spider-Verse, but there looks to be something in the way that very much keeps to the aesthetic and action-direction of that franchise—and there’s something in it for K-Pop fans as well.

Check out the first trailer for K-Pop Demon Hunters:

Here’s the official description:

When K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey aren’t selling out stadiums, they’re using their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from ever-present supernatural danger. Together, they must face their biggest threat — an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.

The movie comes from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, and will also feature an original song performed by Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung of the group TWICE.

While there are a lot of animated properties that try to be very serious when it comes to their story, it does seem like KPDH is embracing the silliness of their premise. Besides the promise of supernatural action, we also have a lot of comedy bits from the two groups—which kinds of harkens to the supplementary K-Pop material where the idols have to do cute-sy game shows and interviews.

So far the movie does look amazing, and maybe this can get some more people into the K-Pop genre if they weren’t a fan of it before.

Catch  K-Pop Demon Hunters when it comes to Netflix on June 20.
