Disney’s Enchanted starring Amy Adams was actually a hit when it came out back in 2007 and word of a sequel had been going around for several years. After the pandemic hit and put almost everything to a halt, it looks like the sequel, Disenchanted is going to be starting production later this spring.

This was initially reported by Production Weekly, but was then confirmed by The DisInsider that Disenchanted would start shooting this Spring in Ireland. We don’t really know what’s in Ireland, but some suspect that we’ll be getting a look at some kind of fantasy world like Andalasia, after the first movie predominantly took place in New York.

Amy Adams is set to reprise the role of Giselle with Hairspray director Adam Shankman at the helm. Patrick Dempsey is also expected to make a return with the production allegedly looking for someone to play a new female villain. I think it’s also worth noting that Alan Menken, who famously wrote songs for Disney’s ‘renaissance’ era would also be coming back to write new songs for the film.

Here’s the synopsis:

Ten years after her happily ever after, Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process.

I absolutely love Enchanted and thought it was a great play on the classic Princess stories that Disney has been famous for. With the modern views of Feminism and ‘woke’ culture, I am curious as to how this sequel will deal with those issues.

No release date has been set for Disenchanted.
