It’s all go-go with Power Rangers. Last week, we had a new and slightly unnerving image of the new Alpha-5. And now, Elizabeth Banks is kicking ass as Rita Repulsa.
Over on their Instagram, the production has revealed a new set picture featuring Banks, of Hunger Games fame, in a lot of green and looking ready to do battle. Check out the exciting image below.
Just look at that staff. That face says it all, too. With what appears to be the inside of a warehouse behind her, it seems that Repulsa is in the midst of doing battle. In addition to this, a closer look reveals that Banks’ left-hand side is cut and torn, suggesting something has gone down.
We’ve already seen Banks’ threatening new Ranger, Becky G in one of the first images to emerge. Most of us will remember her as the eccentric Effie in the Hunger Games films. This time, however, Banks is playing the biggest villain in the Power Rangers universe. She certainly looks like she’s enjoying it.
For those of us who remember the original series, this reboot has taken the universe into completely new territory. Gone are the ponytails, rollerblades and (hopefully) cheesy catchphrases. Now, we’re moving into something similar to the Hunger Games. Updated armour and suits, an Alpha-5 to boot and a whole new generation of actors to take the reigns show us just how determined Lionsgate and Saban are to make the franchise a success.
We still have a several months to wait until Power Rangers hit cinema screens. However, the production have teased glimpses at most of the primary characters – except Zordon. The big bodiless head and mentor to the Rangers, who’ll be played by Bryan Cranston, has yet to be revealed. Therefore, with such a drastic change to Alpha-5, and slicker more serious version of Rita Repulsa, the anticipation for how the production will treat Zordon is mounting.
