Despite being a pivotal character in the franchise, John Connor is the only Terminator character to constantly change actors. What’s interesting is, Terminator: Dark Fate is set to bring back the OG John Connor—Edward Furlong.

James Cameron is said to have confirmed during Dark Fate’s SDCC 2019 panel (via ComicBookMovie) that Furlong will be reprising his role of John Connor. We don’t have any idea on how large his role in the film will be, but it does make sense that he would return alongside Linda Hamilton, who is only just returning to the franchise after Terminator 2.

Seeing that Furlong was in such big films like T2 and American History X, his career basically went the way of several child actors and he’s been under the radar for a while. Having him return in Dark Fate is actually interesting, and I would love to see how this older John Connor has evolved compared to his mother who is apparently still a bad-ass.

As an extra, check out this new featurette for the movie that was showcased at SDCC 2019:

More than two decades after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Sarah Connor sets out to protect a young woman named Dani Ramos and her friends, as a liquid metal Terminator, sent from the future, attempts to terminate them.

Terminator: Dark Fate is directed by Tim Miller and stars Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna, Linda Hamilton, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
