With Captain America: Civil War almost through its box office run, Marvel is going to start switching focus towards their other 2016 release. We’re exactly four months out from Doctor Strange, and Sorcerer Supreme is going to have a big Comic-Con presence. Before that he’s set to have a comic presence, with his prequel comic arriving on July 6.
Just ahead of that release, Marvel has unveiled a four page preview of the first edition. We don’t see any of Stephen Strange himself within Doctor Strange #1, but we do see his assistant Wong. We didn’t get a glimpse of Benedict Wong’s character in the trailer, but you can see him in the comic preview below.
It’s not been revealed who the woman is causing trouble in London, but she’s brought back memories of a previous attack. You can see the Dark Elves name drop, the race who attacked the UK in Thor: The Dark World. We also don’t know what the relic is, but could it be the Eye of Agamotto? We know it will appear as Kevin Feige has already mentioned it will be a part of the story.
Hopefully, this comic can work both as a standalone story and something which adds depth to the film. Marvel have released quite a few of these prequel comics before, and they’ve been very hit and miss. Ahead of Captain America: Civil War, they just did comic versions of previous films. One original comic was made, but it didn’t really further the story. We still don’t know that much about Marvel’s 14th feature film, so there’s a lot of details which could be revealed in the prequel.
Doctor Strange is set for a November 4, 2016 release. Doctor Strange #1 is out on July 6, with the second edition of the two part prequel following on August 24.
