Star Wars Celebration last weekend saw director Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling officially revealing Star Wars: Starfighter, and we don’t know much about the story except that it stars Gosling and it’s going to take place years after the events of Episode IX.
Now thanks to insider Daniel RPK (via @cosmic_marvel), we possibly have some new details. According to DRPK, the story actually follows “a 15-year-old boy on a mission with his uncle (Ryan Gosling) as they’re being pursued by a duo of villains.”
We don’t know how legitimate this plot breakdown is yet, but it does feel like it’s in the same vein as Skeleton Crew where we have some young characters that are going on an adventure with an older character while being pursued by cartoon villains.
Personally, I am more of a Han Solo-enjoyer so I love all things pilots and starfighters. I’m just hoping that Gosling isn’t playing a Jedi because they have honestly been taking too much of the spotlight. I mean, even characters that didn’t need to be Jedi like Sabine Wren are suddenly Jedi-in-training. The Mandalorian gets a Darksaber for a few episodes and gives it to Bo-Katan… big whoop.
I’ll admit, I was not the happiest with Deadpool and Wolverine as a movie, but I still think Shawn Levy makes for great family-action films like his work on Stranger Things and Night at the Museum.
I’m just hoping Starfighter is more concerned about telling a coherent story than making me point and clap and something I’ve seen before.
Star Wars: Starfighter is expected to release around May 2027.
