Daniel Radcliffe Really Wanted to Play Spider-Man

The world might know him as Harry Potter, but it turns out that Daniel Radcliffe would have loved to have played another famous teenager with special abilities. None other than Marvel‘s wallcrawling wonder Spider-Man.

Speaking with Metro UK to talk about his latest movie Swiss Army Man, Radcliffe admitted that he is a big fan of the hero and thinks he would have given a decent stab at the part.

“I would’ve been a good Spider-Man but the boat has sailed on that and I’m very happy to watch Tom Holland do it. He’s fantastic.”

Radcliffe’s Spidey love won’t come as a surprise to followers of the actor. At 2014’s San Diego Comic-Con, he managed to walk about the convention and mingle with fans thanks to a nifty bit of cosplay as the superhero.

“I did an American accent for the whole time,” he revealed at the time. “I even took a rucksack, so I look like I’m just coming to Comic-Con. I had a whole look. But it was great … I took lots of pictures with people who did not know that it was me.”

Though his dream role is out of the question now, Radcliffe was asked if he would consider playing another Marvel superhero instead. Here’s what he said:

“If it was good enough and something I was interested in. I’m not sure if I’d sign up for something that was another seven or eight films or ten years but a shorter franchise, yeah.”

Radcliffe’s stipulation could be quite a difficult one, considering that the MCU likes to keep its actors on board for the long-term. However, who knows what might happen in the future. Daniel Radcliffe for Captain Britain, anyone?

Swiss Army Man arrives in UK cinemas from Friday 30th September.
