Early in Supergirl’s development, CBS added Hank Henshaw to the pilot. While some comic fans recognise that as the alter ego of DC villain Cyborg Superman, he took on a very different role. David Harewood may not have been playing the robotic Man of Steel, but someone will in a few short weeks.
The CW have released a brand new synopsis for Episode 7 of Supergirl, which revealed that the villain would appear. Are they going to make him a long running adversary, or just a simple villain of the week? While we don’t know much about the live action version of the character, here are the details the network has shared:
IT’S SUPERGIRL VS. CYBORG SUPERMAN — While Guardian (Mehcad Brooks) tries to clear his name after being accused of a murder committed by another vigilante, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) heads out on a solo mission to rescue Mon-El (Chris Wood) who has been captured by CADMUS. While fighting to free Mon-El, Supergirl comes face to face with Cyborg Superman. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Robert Rovner & Paula Yoo.
And breathe. There’s quite a lot to take in during that short description. The episode is titled The Darkest Place, which we assume is the CADMUS facility. Just who will be playing Supergirl’s cyborg enemy? Could they have tempted Tyler Hoechlin back to take on the role? Or will it be the original version of Hank Henshaw? So far, we have no idea.
We’d much prefer either of those options over casting a new actor. It would certainly make things harder for Kara if she had to fight her cousin or mentor. There’s an outside chance that a former Superman could take the role. We expect Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent in Lois & Clark, to return to Supergirl in the coming weeks. He played Kara’s adopted father, who was kidnapped by CADMUS. Pitting him against his own daughter would be quite the twist.
Episode 5 of Supergirl airs on Monday on The CW, while Cyborg Superman appears on November 21.
