Given how much The Flash and Arrow interact, more crossovers were always likely on The CW. Having added both Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow to their new season schedule, those crossovers were expected to get even bigger.
EW is reporting that The CW quickly confirmed more crossovers when their shows return later this year. CW chief Mark Pedowitz talked up the huge event after announcing their new schedule at their upfronts panel. “Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December,” before going on to add that it will be, “our biggest one ever.”
Flash and Arrow have crossed over for the past two seasons, with last year’s edition setting up Legends of Tomorrow. That seemed to be the largest crossover between their shows, but that’s going to be trumped this year. The big question on our minds is what kind of threat would bring together the heroes of these four series? It would have to be quite formidable.
Pedowitz also talked about how Supergirl might change after switching networks:
“We are sitting down with Greg Berlanti and his team next week or so. We have a rough idea where they’re heading and, because our working relationship with Greg, we’re confident they understand what our needs are. As for the tone or tonality of the series, they did have a pretty successful series. The fact it’s now moved to The CW, where it should have been in the first place, I don’t think it will have a big impact on the tone.”
One big change that could come is losing one of the main stars. Part of Calista Flockhart’s deal to play Cat Grant was that she got to work close to her LA home. With production moving to Vancouver, it’s unknown if she’ll return. “We’re in ongoing discussions,” Pedowitz said. “We’re thrilled that she wants to continue with the show and we’re happy to have her in [in whatever capacity] works out.”
