One of the most beloved anime to ever come out of Sunrise Animation is Cowboy Bebop, and for years there have been rumblings about a live-action adaptation of the show. As it turns out, the show is getting closer to being made and production could start as early as next year.

As per Discussing Film, a live-action series adaptation of Cowboy Bebop is in the works and is aiming for a production start in April 2019. Netflix is also set to distribute the show, and you can imagine that a lot of anime fans have already started rolling their eyes.

With live-action adaptations of Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note coming out terrible for Netflix, it’s become a meme that any anime-turned-live-action from Netflix is going to end up terrible.

If anything, I think the Cowboy Bebop series has been in development for so long that the script is finely polished by now; at some point, it was going to be a film with Keanu Reeves set to star as Spike Spiegel. Hopefully this live-action series will do the anime justice. When it comes to live-action adaptations of anime, they barely live up to the hype, but you can’t blame anyone for trying. The production value for Altered Carbon was amazing, and we can probably look forward to that with this live-action Cowboy Bebop series.

Spike Spiegel is a bounty hunter in the far future with an easy going attitude and some deadly skill at martial arts. Together with his partners, Jet Black, and later Faye Valentine as well, they go from job to job across the galaxy looking for the high priced fugitives to bag.

Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop has no specific release date announced.
