It’s no mystery that Chris Evans has kind of had a slump in projects since Avengers: Endgame, and the internet has been teasing how Sebastian Stan had locked in compared to him when it comes to roles outside of the MCU.
As it turns out, even Evans is in on the joke. During a promo for LAD Bible with Materialists co-stars Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, everyone was asked on whether they would rather “Relive Their Most Awkward Interview Once a Day” or “Let Each Other Pick Their Next Movie Roles for the Rest of Their Lives” to which Evans joked, “I’d always put you in the movies I’m doing, ruin both those careers.”

Of course, Evans was joking, but it does hit a little too close to home when you consider that his past projects like Lightyear, The Gray Man, Ghosted, Pain Hustlers, and Red One barely got any critical acclaim.
Probably the only project of his that got any praise was Knives Out. I also loved the Scott Pilgrim anime, but even that one isn’t getting a second season.
For now though, Materialists does look fun, and it seems like a return to form for Evans not being the boy scout type. I do hope that he gets to do more artsy projects in the future, but for now, it does seem like he’s in some kind of blockbuster slop limbo.
Watch out for Materialists when it comes to cinemas on June 13.
