Riverdale may be going strong, but it looks like one of its sister shows has been cut off.
According to TV Line, Netflix has pulled the plug on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The fourth part of the series, which is set to come out later this year, will be the last.
Showrunner Robert Aguirre-Sacasa had this to say about the cancellation:
“Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honor from Day One… The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show. I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television, and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see Part Four.”
We don’t exactly know why Netflix has opted to cancel the show, but a lot of fans have been expressing their disappointment online. After the quick cancellation of another Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene, you’d think they’d at least keep Sabrina running for a few more seasons.
If anything, the final season teases an all-out witch war and will have something to do about “the Eldritch Terrors descending on Greendale’. With a cancellation that seems so abrupt, hopefully the showrunners have been given ample time to shoot a proper farewell to the series. I mean, I’m not the biggest fan of CAOS, but I thought it had a pretty unique voice and had a funny way of dealing with the occult.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set to return to Netflix sometime later this year.
