Cassian Andor: Diego Luna Talks About the One Gripe He has for His Star Wars Comeback

Diego Luna had played Captain Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story back in 2016, but he’s set to reprise the role in a prequel series for Disney+ soon. Though he isn’t allowed to share anything about the series yet, he does talk about his one gripe when it comes to returning to the character.

As well all know, the Cassian Andor series is expected to be a prequel, highlighting on Cassian’s missions before he runs into Jyn Erso in Rogue One. Talking to El Sigle de Torreon (translated via @sleemo on Twitter), Luna says, “The problem is that I have to look younger—it’s a prequel! With a lot of exercise, organic lettuce (laughs), staying as young and healthy as I can.”

We don’t really know how far the series will go back, but we do know that Cassian has been working against the Empire since he was at the age of six. With this series, I expect we’re going to see just what Cassian lost, and maybe we could get to see him become the morally compromised character that we meet in Rogue One.

Besides Luna, Alan Tudyk is also set to reprise the role of reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO. With this being a series, I expect K-2’s role to be more minimal since he’s a fully CG character. Then again, maybe they could find ways to cheat it onscreen. Maybe for a time K-2 can be dismantled like 3PO in Empire Strikes Back, and they can just use a practical puppet that Luna can carry around. Personally I’m hoping they give Tudyk an onscreen role as himself; maybe as the guy who reprograms K-2 or maybe the Imperial officer who was handling K-2 before he “defected.”

No release date has been set for Cassian Andor, but you can watch out for The Mandalorian which launches alongside Disney+ on Nov. 12.
